Katie was first formally introduced to the term “community engagement” as an AmeriCorps member with the Montana Technology Corps in 2001. Not only did the phrase have a nice ring to it, but it described an aim she wanted to pursue and thought (believing as she still does today that we are all one another’s greatest resource) others should, too. To that end, she volunteered around issues she cared about, did some community organizing, and pursued a Master’s degree in Public Administration at the University of Montana. Since 2005, she has worked on service-learning, national service, and community engagement initiatives throughout the Rocky Mountain West, thus nurturing a benevolent obsession with helping students of all ages get involved and make a difference.
